MONSTER ENERGY KAWASAKI’S

Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott earned a second-place finish at the third round of the AMA National Hare and Hound series in El Centro, Calif. Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green rider Joshua Morros picked up his third victory of the season in the 250A class aboard his Kawasaki KX™250F.

Abbott rode an impressive third round in El Centro, but experienced some unfortunate luck toward the end of the race. He got within striking distance of the leader before a stick went through his radiator, causing him to lose coolant. The mishap ended Abbott’s shot at victory, but it didn’t prevent him from preserving his championship hopes.

“I really don’t think the bike would’ve gone another couple miles,” said Abbott, after finding out his radiator was completely dry when he came across the finish line. “I barely got the bike to the finish and I needed the points. At least I still got second and I’m still in the championship race.”

Abbott currently sits fourth in the championship standings, which doesn’t include the throw away round. At the end of the series, the worst round for each rider will be tossed and the final points will then be adjusted.

Morros raced a hard battle to come across the finish-line seventh overall, which also earned him the 250A expert class win. With the pro and expert classes competing simultaneously, overall points are awarded to the top 20 finishers in addition to points in their appropriate classes.

The fourth round of the AMA National Hare and Hound series takes place at Jericho, Utah on April 14.
